Client Insights

Established in 2013, Nottinghamshire-based legal firm Centurion Legal supports employers for both national and international companies, providing high-quality employment law services to businesses across multiple industries. We caught up with Centurion’s founder, Roscoe Fernandes, to gather his insights on building a business with legal marketing and forward-thinking ethics at its heart.

Tell us a bit about how your business started…

I formed Centurion Legal in June 2013. It wasn’t that I was intending to so much, but I wanted to take care of my past clients, and I sensed a need for continued support. The paperwork went through on the 1st July 2013, and Centurion Legal was regulated by the end of the year. It’s a lot easier to go through that paperwork now, it’s much more accessible to get into the legal service than it was a few years ago.

I’ll have been qualified for 15 years in October, it’s gone so quickly! I deal with employment law, specialising in discrimination areas like defence tribunals and claims. I also focus on the more non-contentious side of employment law, helping with general day to day grievances, redundancies and reorganisations. My heart lies in defence claims though, I’m a litigator at heart.

Where do you see the future of your business?

We work mainly for employers, from sole traders right up to blue chip companies, and on a regional to international level. I love working with SME employers, so in the future, we’d definitely like to grow that client base. We find that we can build a relationship with SMEs that really lets us get to know more about their business – that’s really important to us.

What attracted you to working with Mantra Media?

One of the first pieces of information I had from you was a handout Johnny gave to me at an event with illustrations of the Mantra Team. I really liked that, it seemed like a modern and forward-thinking approach to digital marketing that aligns with Centurion Legal. I think we have a synergy in the way we approach our businesses; our illustrations show that we’re serious about what we do, but we’re approachable. It breaks down the stereotype of traditional lawyers sitting in little rooms by themselves without speaking to anyone. I think our businesses share the same ethics and forward-thinking values, and working with similar businesses helps strengthen those shared motivations even further.

What advice would you give to someone starting up a business in your industry?

I’d say to believe in yourself, have confidence in your ability and the relationships you hold. There’s no reason for you not to succeed; take the plunge without being held back by uncertainty, remember that people believe in people, and don’t hold back. You don’t want to be left thinking ‘what if?’ in a few years time – go for it now.

Here at Mantra, building relationships based on a mutual understanding lies at the foundation of our ethical approach, allowing us to champion your successes with the most carefully crafted strategies. If you’d like to begin building a meaningful relationship with us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
