We caught up with Lincoln and Perrin, the team behind Roth Read, to gather their insights on building a business that makes a difference with photography marketing.

Tell us a bit about Roth Read…

Perrin: Well, Lincoln’s Roth, and I’m Read. We met 8 years ago, when we were both working in office jobs, and we shared a love for photography. When we had some space and time to set up a business, we just took the chance. We always wanted to do it – life’s too short not to be living your dream! Photography introduced something new into our lives.

We started portfolio building with our friends and family, to get to know what people looking for professional photos want. People can be nervous having their photo taken, they’re not sure what to wear or how to pose. We have a consultation before every shoot to get to know every person we’re working with, and build up their confidence. Our photography experience is something to remember, something our clients can look back on. We don’t like sticking to the studio either. Using different backgrounds and location give our clients something different to create the best experience possible. We recently completed a shoot at Thwaite Mill which was so much fun. Our photography experience is all about getting out of your comfort zone, and doing what you love. We now have lives that we love, we still get giddy about it! 

Where do you see the future of Roth Read Photography?

Perrin: I’d say we’re where we want to be! We’re very mindful of helping people through our photography. There’s no rushing in or out – the longer we’re with people, the more confident they feel. We go out on a limb a little bit, people have the right to have fun with their photographs. For us, it’s all about the client and what feels right for them, creating the best images for them. Getting to know the people we’re working with is the best thing, the way we work makes a massive difference. 

Lincoln: We ask everyone we work with, “how do you dream of being photographed?” It’s an experience we’re creating, not a high street photoshoot. Spending time with people, helping them feel more natural in front of the camera means their photos become personal, helping people remember their special day. We inspire people to feel confident in their own skin. 

Perrin: There’s a psychology in what we do. It’s a journey to get to know our clients, understanding their motives and just creating a lovely experience. It’s their call at the end of the day – we want them to be excited! 

What attracted you to Mantra Media?

We all attract the kind of people you want to work with, and you’re good people. I think our philosophies are built around the same values. We both want to create experiences that genuinely help people, and that make a difference. The members of the Mantra team we’ve met so far have all been so kind and welcoming – we get a really good feeling from just being around you.
