Recently re-opened, Laundreams is a full service laundry located in Sheffield’s Fox Hill area, specialising in a service that gives their customers something to look forward to. We sat down with Haworth, Laundreams’ Managing Director, to find out more about his motivations behind building a culture of laundry with love.

Tell us a bit about how your journey with Laundreams started…

That’s a great place to start! I used to take my shirts to be washed and ironed to a little laundry up the road. My shirts were always beautifully laundered, they looked good and smelt good, and visiting the laundry was always such a great experience. It became something to look forward to. I got chatting to the team behind Laundreams and just thought I would love to own a place like this, that provides such a lovely experience. Around the time, I came into some money which was enough to invest into a small business. About 3 weeks later, I got a phone call from the laundry’s old owners to say they were planning to sell. I was motivated by the way I personally felt about it, from having a great experience as a client. It just felt good, it felt like the right thing to do.

Preparations began for the swap over at the end of January. Laundreams has been a laundry since the ‘60s, so the local community, continuity of services and the value we place in our community have been huge factors in the process. We’ve invested in new equipment, given everyone a pay rise and gone into small business marketing, it’s so important to us that everyone who comes into contact with Laundreams receives the same universal experience of love and care. That’s why our tagline is “Laundry With Love”. It might sound a bit cheesy, but it’s true.

What advice would you give to anyone starting out in your industry?

The first day I took Laundreams over was a Friday. I went in and asked the team to treat me like an apprentice and show me every element of the business. There are so many moving parts going on at any one time; washing, dry cleaning, special services, and every customer requires something slightly different. There’s always loads going on. So I’d say go in with open eyes and be prepared to learn – there’s always more than meets the eye.

Why did you choose to work with Mantra Media?

Mantra’s small business marketing philosophy is built around the same values as my own. Straight off, Natalie and Johnny came to see us, and visited our lovely little shop. That mattered.

The culture feels different at Mantra. Things are done differently – like taking shoes off when we visit your building – and it shows. I liked Natalie and Johnny’s pragmatic approach to small business marketing, and two months into our social campaign, your philosophy has borne fruit. My expectations have changed. I envision moving forward with you, and continuing to get more work from our social campaign.
